The Institute of Mathematics of the University of Valladolid (IMUVa) joint with the PhD programme in Mathematics and the research group SINGACOM is organizing the PhD course "Introduction to intersection theory and characteristic classes for singular varieties" taught by Professor Paolo Aluffi from Florida State University.
Dates: 4-7 November 2019
Abstract: We will give a motivated introduction to Fulton-MacPherson intersection theory, with emphasis on the notion of Segre class. We will focus on techniques for computations of these classes in template situations such as blow-ups and excess and residual intersection formulas. We will discuss applications of these notions to enumerative geometry and to the definition and computation of characteristic classes generalizing to singular varieties standard invariants such as Chern classes of nonsingular varieties.
Schedule:
Monday 4 Nov: 17:00-18:30 Chern and Segre classes
Tuesday 5 Nov: 17:00-18:00 Enumerative geometry and intersection theory
Wednesday 6 Nov: 17:00-18:00 Segre classes and Newton polytopes
Thursday 7 Nov: 17:00-18:30 Characteristic classes of singular varieties
