Fernando Lledó. Amenability and uniform Roe C*-algebras

Abstract: The notion of an amenable group was introduced by von Neumann in 1929. Since then it has become an important concept in many areas of mathematics. In this talk we will approach the concept of amenability from very different perspectives: we will analyze metric, purely algebraic and C* -algebraic aspects. Finally, we will present Roe C* -algebras associated to discrete metric spaces with bounded geometry as an example where all these approaches unify. Joint work with P. Ara (UAB), K. Li (U. Münster), and J. Wu (Penn State U.).
