Aspects of Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras
Batalin-Vilkovisky laplacians are special Cartan differential operators which appear in physics in the context of the quantization of gauge theories. In this talk, based on arXiv:2609.24781 with Domenico Fiorenza, I will discuss several aspects of BV laplacians: In particular, I will show that they descend from the datum of a Gerstenhaber algebra and a rank 1 module with a differential. Then I will introduce the notion of a Ševera bicomplex and explain that, under some assumptions, it inherits a Cartan calculus and thus a BV laplacian in cohomology. Our construction reproduces Pavol Ševera’s celebrated result on the origin of the BV operator on odd symplectic manifolds.

Courant contact models and twists of supergravity
We show how one can associate, to any holomorphic Courant algebroid with a holomorphic volume form, a natural (infinite-dimensional) dg symplectic manifold called the Courant contact model. If the holomorphic Courant algebroid arises from a solution to Killing spinor equations in 10 dimensions, the result conjecturally describes Costello-Li’s holomorphic twist of type I supergravity. In the case of the standard Courant algebroid we recover (the cotangent description of) the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau manifolds. This is a joint work with C. Jonker, J. Kupka, I. Saberi, and C. Strickland-Constable.
