Ed Formanek has pointed out that the argument can be simplified as follows:

On  page 165, in the second last line, change
          "$\overline Z = Z/(Z \cap \frak m)$,"  to
          "$\overline Z =  Z(\overline A)$ (the center of  $\overline A$),".
On page 165, in the last line, and on page 166, in the first line,  delete the two sentences
          "Then $\overline e \ast \overline 1 = \overline 1$;  $\overline e \ast \overline A \subseteq \overline Z$.
           But $\overline Z$ lies in the centre of $\overline A$, which in turn is acted on trivially by $\overline e$
           so $\overline Z$ is the centre of $\overline A$."

On page 166,  in line 7, change "\otimes vew"  to "\otimes (vew".
