In this talk, we introduce the Hecke operators as cohomological correspondences, making use of the results developed in the previous session.

This is closely connected with the classical definition, but our approach here relies on tools from algebraic geometry and on a local study of the geometry of the modular curve. We also emphasize the relation with other definitions, as well as certain connections with the theory of automorphic forms.
