In mathematics you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
--John von Neumann, reply to a physicist at Los Alamos who had said "I don't understand the method of characteristics."

The fifth page of Joan Maragall's article "EXCURSIÓ A TOSSA" contains the following sentence: "I jo, mirant enllà aquelles penyes llunyanes, se m'encengué en el cor un gran desitj d'anar a la vila amagada seguint la costa olorosa..." In the traffic circle in Tossa de Mar where Avinguda Joan Maragall crosses Carrer Victor Català, there is a stone plaque, surely carved by employees of Cambridge University Press, which says the following:

I A MI
MIRANT ENLLÀ AQUELLES
PENYES LLUNYANES,
SE M'ENCENGUÉ AL COR
UN GRAN DESIG D'ANA
A LA VILA AMAGADA
SEGUINT LA COSTA
COLOR ROSA.
