In this talk, we prove the existence of certain lifts of Hilbert modular forms to general odd spin groups.

These lifts are generalisations of the so-called twisted Yoshida lifts. As an application, we use the lifts to provide evidence for a conjecture of Dick Gross on the modularity of abelian varieties.
