CURS “Dependent censoring in survival analysis”

Títol: Dependent censoring in survival analysis: from basic concepts to some recent advances based on copulas

Prof. Ingrid Van Keilegom – Operations Research and Statistics Research Group, Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven

The course gives an overview of modern techniques to handle dependent  censoring in survival analysis.  It starts with a number of practical examples of situations in which dependent censoring occurs, and what the consequences are if the censoring time would erroneously be considered independent of the survival time. Next, it will be explained why copula functions are very useful to handle the presence of dependent censoring.  A number of recent papers are then discussed, in which copula based models for dependent censoring are proposed and estimated. An R package for using these methods will also be explained in detail, and the course will finish with some hands-on exercise session in which the methods can be applied on real data.

Requisits:

  • Basic knowledge of survival analysis is recommended (censoring, Kaplan-Meier estimator, Cox model, AFT model). Also, some knowledge of copulas (what they are, how to interpret them, etc) will be useful.
