Abstract: I will review how geometric structures are defined and present the way generalized geometry creates a common framework to offer new insights into known structures and go beyond them. First, I will focus on generalized complex geometry, which encompasses complex and symplectic structures. I will then mention, based on my own work, some recent alternative approaches, the geometries that arise and how they are combined. This talk will be accessible to a general audience with a basic background on differential geometry.
